7th grade English students in Mrs. Franklin's class are participating in a mock trial to learn how to state a claim and provide evidence to support it. This learning activity is a great way to teach students about public speaking and building confidence in front of a group. It also teaches persuasive writing skills. Mrs. Franklin makes a great judge, too, don't you think? #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Community and family are often words used to describe Claremore Public Schools. This week our schools hosted Thanksgiving lunch and invited the community to join us. Our schools filled with parents, siblings, and grandparents sitting side by side with our students. At Catalayah, RSU soccer boys visit the classrooms on Friday mornings to read, help and mentor our students. Coach Larkin heard there would be some kids whose families could not make it to Thanksgiving table. So they decided to stay to eat with the Catalayah students. It didn't take long, word got out, and the tables began to fill with additional players who joined in so all students would be a part of the festivities. Here are a few of the Hillcats with our Zebra family. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Lane's classes at WRJH are currently working on a mock trial. They are using a case file that includes exhibits and a nonfiction story to pull evidence to prove their case. By working on gathering information and organizing it for their mock trial, they are working on standards that focus on argumentative writing. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Bouncy balls, bouncy house, bouncy seat, but BOUNCY EGGS??? Can you make an egg bounce? Mrs. Ritter's 5th grade class at Catalayah decided to find that out. This experiment was not only fun, but students were able to experience chemical reactions in action. So the answer is, yes, you can make an egg bounce... but not too high. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE https://youtu.be/Vagmk6GnRo0

The mysteries of the "teachers' workroom." Remember, always wondering what lurked behind that door that was labeled "TEACHERS ONLY"? This week Catalayah students were allowed into the inner circle as the winners of the "lunch with the 1st-grade teachers" auction were treated to a private lunch. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Can a persimmon seed predict our winter weather? Mrs. Westfall's class at Will Rogers Junior High decided to test this theory. According to folklore, if you crack open a persimmon seed and look at the shape inside, it can forecast the winter weather. If it's fork shape, winter will be mild. If the seed is spoon-shaped, there will be lots of snow, and if it's knife shape, the winter will be bitterly cold that cuts like a knife. So what do this year's seeds say about the upcoming winter? The class looked at the differences between male and female pine cones. They also cracked open persimmon seeds and found spoon shapes in all the seeds. It looks like we will be getting lots of snow according to our seed investigation! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

We know that being present is important for your child’s learning progress. What can you do to help them be at school every day? • Set a regular bedtime and morning routine. • Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. • Don’t let your child stay home unless she is truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomach ache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home. • If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning. • Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent. • Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
