🎓 NEXT LEVEL ZEBRA: Dr. Brian Andrews, CHS Class of 1994
From Westside kindergartener to now university dean, Dr. Brian Andrews is a proud product of Claremore Public Schools and a shining example of lifelong learning.
In July, Dr. Andrews will begin his tenure as Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Rogers State University. A dedicated scholar, he earned full scholarships throughout his academic journey—from his B.A. at the University of Oklahoma to his M.A. at the University of Wyoming and ultimately to his M.A. and Ph.D. from Southern Methodist University, graduating completely debt-free.
He credits his strong academic foundation to the educators who impacted him along the way, including Linda Batty, Keith Bolton, and Beth Young at CHS, as well as his favorite 4th-grade teacher, Nakita Orender, at Westside Elementary.
👏 Dr. Andrews began his Zebra journey in 1981 and has continued learning ever since.

Happy Juneteenth! As this is a newer federally recognized holiday.
On June 19, 1865 Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War. This was more than two years after it was signed.
Today, we celebrate freedom!

Meet Maverick – Westside’s Newest Zebra Family Member! 🐾🦓
During Spring Break, Mrs. Lyons and her pup, Maverick, traveled to Ardmore, OK, where Maverick completed training with First Response K9 and became a fully certified therapy dog.
This fall, Maverick will officially join the Westside Elementary team, bringing calm, comfort, and cuddles to students and staff. 🐶💙 Before summer break, he made special classroom visits to introduce himself. Students learned how to interact with Maverick respectfully, especially when he’s wearing his working vest.
He’s already made a BIG impression, and we can’t wait to see the positive impact he’ll have when school starts back up.
Welcome to the Zebra family, Maverick!

🎓 NEXT LEVEL ZEBRA: Maria Bustamante, CHS Class of 2019
Only 8% of Latinos in the U.S. hold a graduate degree. Maria Bustamante is now one of them.
This May, Maria graduated with her Master’s in Epidemiology from Harvard College, a proud Ivy League achievement made possible through the Presidential Leadership Scholars Program, which allowed her to attend tuition-free.
💡 “The past two years have been transformational. I’ve explored the intersection of strategy, health, tech, and policy to understand better why healthcare systems function as they do and how to ensure vulnerable populations aren’t left out.”
Maria says this milestone isn’t hers alone; it belongs to her community. She’s proof that grit, purpose, and heart can take you anywhere. 🌍
📩 Submitted by proud mother Georgina Bustamante, who celebrates her daughter’s grit, purpose, and relentless pursuit of excellence.
👏 Let’s hear it for Maria—she’s not just making waves, she’s redefining what’s possible.
