Mrs. Clemons, one of our amazing volunteers, helped the kindergarten class plant clover. The students cannot wait to see how the plants grow over the next several weeks. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🎶Chop it like it’s hot. Chop it like it’s hot. Chop it like it’s hot. It’s never too early to start teaching students how to make healthy food choices, master basic cooking skills and engage in a little friendly competition. Sodexo Schools has spent the last decade helping students practice their culinary skills through the Future Chefs Challenge. Each of these Zebra finalists will move to the district competition this Tuesday. Students submitted recipes for a fruit or vegetable side dish at the district level. On Tuesday the students will prepare the dish with the assistance of a Sodexo employee. The recipes will be judged on taste, healthiness, kid friendliness, originality, ease of preparation, plate presentation and student chef presentations to the judges. The winner at each district then moves on to a regional round with others across the nation. One winner is chosen at the end of the contest and named the National Champion. Fourth grade students modeled incredible teamwork while researching natural disasters. Not only did they work together to research, but they also created a script to report their findings in a newscast format. Ms. Palmer filmed their broadcasts as they presented so they could look back on them and evaluate their public speaking skills. Remember Spring Break begins on FRIDAY, March 10th, this year. All CPS offices and campuses will be closed from Friday, March 10th through Friday, March 17th. Relax - read a book…for fun, play a board game, put together a puzzle, paint a picture, have a family meal; whatever you do MAKE A MEMORY. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

👬👭Westie Besties were all hands on deck for Read Across America week reading. Here the 5th graders are teamed up with the 1st graders. Not only does this encourages reading but it allows our students to model and practice several GE expectations. 1 - We will value one another as unique and special individuals. 3 - We will use good manners, saying..."thank you";;; 4 - We will cheer each other on to success. 5 - We will help one another whenever possible. 6 - We will recognize every effort and applaud it. 7 - We will encourage each other to do our best. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE #ReadAcrossAmerica #GEModelSchool #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

During Black History Month, 5th grade students read Bud, Not Buddy - a novel set in the 1930s which focuses on an orphan who runs away to find his father, who he believes is the leader of a Jazz band. When he finds the man he's looking for, the man is not what he expected. Still, his search brings closure and offers him a real home. The Glass Slipper will open on March 18th for the 2023 prom season. They will be open every Saturday from March 18 to April 29. No appointment is necessary. Come by from 10a-2:30p and find the perfect dress to borrow (for free). This is a non-profit ministry of Cedar Point Church. Have a dress hanging in your closet...they rely on donations. Second grade is learning about the water cycle. After reading the book Wild Weather., they made water cycle mobiles to hang in the class.🌧️☀️ 🧠 This may seem like a fun craft to you, but it is an actual teaching strategy to engage the student's auditory, visual and kinesthetic learning modes which increases learning. It also gives them an opportunity to work on fine and gross motor skills. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🚀Helping students find their place in space! Mrs. Rahn spent a few days training like an astronaut in a scuba diving session and learning authentic, engaging lessons on space exploration at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX! She attended the Space Exploration Educators Conference. “I’m excited to bring back these amazing lessons taught by NASA experts & teachers to my Artemis Generation students. I love sharing job opportunities with students with STEM concepts in action!” #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Westside classes each have a "Westie Bestie" partner class. These Westie Besties support and help one another throughout the school year. Ms. Palmer's 4th-grade students used their Zebra bucks to join centers with their Westie Besties in Ms. Pilant's class. CPS counselors are valued and build a positive infrastructure that allows students to learn at high levels. Our counselors are an integral asset to our teaching staff and students, focusing on various social and emotional topics with all classes. Mrs. Lyons recently joined Mrs. Collins' second-grade students, teaching them to give and receive apologies appropriately.
