April is National Poetry Month, and there is no better way to celebrate the beauty of poetry than with a feature on our own Zebra Poet, Ainsley Nidiffer. Ainsley is a Claremore High School Senior who competed in the Scissortail Writing Contest put on by East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Her poem "Al Balad" is the third-place winner, selected from over 600 entries across the state of Oklahoma. We met with Ainsley to discuss the meaning of her poem and what this opportunity meant for her. She shared with us a personal reading and the story of her work told through images from her exchange year in Jordan. "Al Balad" is the Arabic word for "The City," where Ainsley Nidiffer spent her Junior year of high school studying abroad in Amman, Jordan. In her poem, she discusses the feeling and realization her time in Jordan was ending after completing an iftar, a meal-breaking fast, during Ramadan with her teacher and classmates. 💗🌎Great Expectation #5- We will help one another whenever possible. The NJROTC Corps of Cadets has been going to Claremore campuses to clean up litter to help keep our schools clean! They volunteered their time to clean up not only all Claremore Public Schools but also the VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans. We appreciate Chief Jasper and Col. 🌎🐢Earth Day Festivities! Mrs. Ward's Class took a nature walk and put their observation skills to use! The students were instructed to find 3 types of vegetation and 3 animals and take pictures of them on their iPads! They planted sunflowers around the Catalayah gazebo to add a little sunshine to everyone's day! They were given gardening tools, seeds, and soil to work together to plant the seeds, and now they are anxiously waiting to see the blossoms of their labor. When the planting was done, the little gardeners came back inside to write about their day and discuss plant cycles! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🚛🎨 A Truck Load of Talent! The City of Claremore Storm Water Manager presented an art contest to 5th graders to design a drawing to be displayed on a truck throughout Claremore. Catalayah's very own Hanna Stesney is the winner! Hanna got to attend the City Council meeting Monday night where they recognized her and showed off her drawing. Her design is displayed on the truck, which not only goes around Claremore but it also goes to Catalayah where Hannah gets to see her artwork! That is just what Claremont 1st graders are learning about! - They observed how water travels up the stem of a plant and into the leaves by placing a celery stalk in a glass of water dyed with food coloring. - They observed and recorded what the celery looked like before, then they made predictions about what would happen next. - After several hours they observed the changes and recorded them. 🔍👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🔬Claremore High School Biomedical Program Claremore High School students in the Biomedical science program get a hands-on experience in the human body systems class. The students take their knowledge from lessons and then apply it in the form of clay! They utilize and form clay to mimic organs and muscles to replicate the internal human body. They do this progressively throughout the term until the internal body system is created. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
