Our younger students love it when older students volunteer in their classrooms. What a positive way to show support from one class to another. Here are a couple of third graders who went to the kindergarten class to read and explore new books.

Who would you write about?
4th graders in Mrs. Troyer's WIN group are learning about influential African Americans during Black History Month.
Students chose one person they wanted to learn more about and put their learning to work writing a 5 paragraph essay about that person's life and achievements.

Teaching entrepreneurship in elementary school??? That's just what Westside GT classes are learning. The students created a button production business plan in order to raise money for their activities. Button designs promote kindness, encouragement, sports, hobbies, music, and holidays.
Like all good corporate citizens, the students choose to give a portion of their profits back to Westside. After their first spirit button sale, they presented their first donation of $64 to Mrs. Hinds.

Tell us about an act of kindness that impacted you this week!
To help students understand how kindness has its ripple effect, students shared an act of kindness they had shown with their classmates and then dropped a stone in the water to watch the ripples spread. They then discussed how their personal experience was like ripples in water.

Do you remember your bus driver?
Bus drivers are one of the first and last people students see during their school day. The opportunity to influence our students positively makes a difference in the hundreds of Zebras' lives who ride our buses daily.
THANK YOU for your commitment to MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

❄It's been a while since we had any snow...outside.
The warmer weather forecast called for a snowball fight in Mrs. Campbell's class. After throwing and collecting their snowballs, students would practice reading the sight words written on them. It was snow much fun!

Mrs. Wallis' class had some guests from RSU who are working with her class on fine/gross motor skills to improve handwriting. Students work on threading, punching holes, cutting with scissors, and bouncing a ball.

ART or PE - we all know both classes' advantages. However, students were posed a question to teach the art of creating a well thought out argumentative paper. Which subject, art or physical education, should schools require students to take?
Students began researching by partnering with another classmate to read scholarly articles about both options. With their newfound information, they discussed the evidence they could use to support their claim.
Luckily, at CPS, elementary students enjoy time in both classes weekly. Secondary students have the option to take one or both as electives.
