Claremore FFA President Chason Sisvosky is currently experiencing one of the best leadership opportunities an FFA member can experience, the Washington Leadership Conference (WLC). Chason and many other FFA members from across the state will spend a week in Washington DC honing their leadership skills, interacting with other FFA members from across the nation, participating in community service projects, meeting with members of Congress, and seeing the sights of our Nation's Capitol. It's truly an experience of a lifetime. 🌽💙

One of many Claremore Public School's flourishing programs is the Art Program at the High School. Each week we will be featuring an artist from CHS to showcase the talent we have here at CPS!
This is Adele Wilson, a National award-winning artist and Senior at CHS. We met with her to gain insight into the inspiration behind her pieces.
🎨 What was the artistic journey that brought you into art?
"Seeing pieces from other artists was what first inspired me to start creating art. When I took Art 1 in ninth grade, I was in awe at the pieces hung up in Mrs. Hoffer’s classroom, which gave me the spark to improve my skills. "
🎨 When did you first discover your interest in art?
"I first discovered my interest in art when I was in the seventh grade. It started with simple doodles on assignments, which soon turned into a passion. I took an art class in my eighth-grade year, which solidified my love for art and caused me to continue taking art classes in high school."
🎨 What have you learned about yourself through this experience/art?
"Through my art journey, I have learned that I tend to get caught up in the small details rather than the piece as a whole. I struggle with perfectionism which causes me to easily get frustrated with my work. However, my amazing art teachers and friends give me the encouragement I need to persevere."
🎨 How did it feel getting to see people admire your work/talent?
"Seeing the reactions of people viewing my art made me really happy, and it gave me more motivation to continue making art."
🎨 What was the inspiration behind your pieces? (In order of artwork attached)
Her favorite piece, “Not for Sale,” was inspired by the holiday Juneteenth and what it stands for in the history and culture of African Americans.
“Embroidered Cultural Roots” is another piece that she likes. The embroidered headwrap on the lady’s head signifies the intricacy and beauty of African culture.
“From Dust” was inspired by her art teacher Mrs. Hoffer. Who showed different reference photos to choose from for a project, and the movement she felt from seeing the hands on the pottery wheel inspired her to create this piece.
The final piece is a self-portrait.

Congratulations to Jenny Gaylord on receiving a Claremore Public Schools Foundation Spring Grant! This grant will allow them to not only march to the beat of their own drum but play one as well!🥁🦓❤
"I cannot thank you enough for awarding me this grant for steel drums for my elementary students. I fully believe this will be a blessing not only for my music room but for the community of Claremore. I cannot wait to get our steel band started! "

Why Wednesday ❓♥
We are starting a new series called "Why Wednesday" featuring our amazing teachers here at Claremore Public School and WHY they are passionate about teaching!
Sara Lahr teaches Sophomore English at CHS, FUZE Mentor, and Assistant Dance Team Coach. She's been teaching for 8 years, all 8 years at CPS. She always knew she wanted to be teacher, " I saw how much influence teachers had, and I wanted to be one of those positive influences."
❔ WHY Statement:
"I teach, because literature and helping are my passions in life, and having that joy in my job has seeped into all facets of my life. I want to help students explore not only their thoughts and feelings about literature, but about life and hopefully help them find their own passion. I believe that we create the life that we want and I want students to see that they create their future and to find something that brings them true happiness. "
"Whenever I tell people what my job is, I get the same reaction of Ehh. And I always think to myself how sad it is, that they see it as a negative when I am beyond blessed to get to smile and laugh every day at my job. I feel so blessed to forge meaningful bonds wit my students who become my kids. I’ve cried with them, celebrated their successes and comforted them and love them as the amazing people they are."
"Be the person you needed growing up" is a motto I live and teach by. Our #1 priority is to be role models for our students so they feel safe, seen, and respected. Additionally, I utilize my passion for teaching to help students explore their thoughts and feelings about themselves. I always ask, "What will make you happy?" Instead of "What do you want to do when you grow up?" I want students to find their passion and live life in whatever way will bring them true happiness and joy! "
"Being a Zebra means treating every student as my own and giving them a sense of safety, importance, and acceptance." She knows CHS is family and is here to support each other. She chose to teach at CPS because of the amazing people who encouraged and helped her through her internship. She knew this was where she could grow and thrive.
