Kindergarteners in Mrs. Shrum's class practice reading decodable readers to a friend. 📕Decodable books are simple books that are written for the beginning reader and contain the specific grapheme–phoneme correspondences students have recently learned. These are so important for growing readers! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

"Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can." -Theodore Roosevelt What a great life lesson... learning how to use what you have for what you need! Mrs. Hulse's WIN class did just that. Students had to figure out a new game- how to play baseball without a bat or bases (all they had was a ball!)They used shoes for bases and their hand as the bat! It was a nice day and a great learning opportunity. 👟🖐⚾ #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

5th grade students worked on nonfiction text structures - understanding the structure of a text improves comprehension by helping students organize big ideas and supporting details as they read, see how different pieces of information relate to each other, and get the main idea of the entire passage. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

👋Let’s welcome Madison Lopez to the Zebra family in today’s New Teacher Feature! 👩‍🏫Ms. Lopez is a new 4th grade teacher at Catalayah Elementary! She graduated with a Bachelors in Biology from Rogers State University. She is also a Claremore High School alum, class of 2012! She was only at CHS for 2 years, but she says moving to Claremore her junior year was the best thing to happen in her life. Some of the teachers she had shaped her into the person/teacher she is today. 👍Her favorite thing about CPS is the amazing teachers and students. When asked why she teaches, Ms. Lopez said, “I never saw myself as a teacher, but when I would sub in a classroom, I realized that I enjoyed what I was doing and how I could help students learn. There is nothing greater than being part of a student's aha moment.” ❤️She chose Claremore Public Schools because she’s worked for CPS in the after school childcare program for 7 years. She originally worked there because it fit well with her schedule, but she found out that she really enjoyed working with children. “Claremore is a great community and it has some very awesome students that I have worked with and hope to continue to work with”, says Ms. Lopez. 🐾Ms. Lopez has 2 rescue dogs named Cali and Abby Favorites: 🍴: Something salty with a little sweet 🍭: Skittles 🥤: Pepsi or unsweet tea 🎨: Pink #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
