The CHS Native American Student Association attended the Indigenous Peoples Day celebration honoring the past, present and future of Native people across the country. The holiday celebrates the culture and resilience of the Native American people. Oklahoma has 39 federally recognized tribes across the state. Members participating: Anna, Monica, Amaeli, Abigail, Christabelle, Nathan, Nevan, Ryann, Sadie, Cash, Camille, Gracie, Caitlin, Owen, Ainsle, Rosco, Daphne, and Allie. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

CLAREMORE CELEBRATES INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY Claremore is a city filled with rich Native American history. "Claremore got its beginnings when Chief Glahmo led his tribe of Osage Indians from Missouri in 1802. He soon established a fur trading post along the Verdigris River. The trading post sat atop a 25-acre mound which came to be known as Clermont, a French word meaning “clear mountain.” Over time, traders and Indians alike began to refer to the Chief as “Chief Clermont.” (https://www.legendsofamerica.com/ok-claremore/) #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The Zebra Marching Band competed against 22 other bands at the Stallion Battalion Marching Contest in Oologah, OK. The Band received the following awards: In prelim competition: 🏆 3rd Place Colorguard Class 5A 🏆 3rd Place Percussion Class 5A 🏆 1st Place Class 5A Blue Full Band In Finals: 🏆 3rd Place Percussion 🏆 4th Place Overall Full Band They’ll show their #CPSZEBRAPRIDE at the contest in Beggs tomorrow!

Pre-K students at Claremont spend a lot of time working on small-motor skills. These skills help students with pre-writing skills and help prepare them to move on to Kindergarten. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The Claremore Fire Department helped Roosa Elementary celebrate 🔥🚒Fire Prevention Week🔥🚒. The Firemen told students how to prevent and escape a fire. They showed students about Stop, Drop & Roll, and how to get low when there's smoke. The MOST important thing they taught students is that all families need to have a “Meeting Place” located outside, such as a mailbox or tree away from the house. This is where everyone in the family goes in case of fire. This helps everyone to be safe. Let’s give a round of applause to these firemen! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🏆💯🥇Homecoming... where the fun stuff happens! Success is best when shared, and the senior class shared more than one victory, claiming the spirit stick and winning 1st place in float building! They kept the winning streak going and shared their victory with some underclassmen in Ms. Andrew's Creative Writing class, taking the top spot in the door decorating contest. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Fifth grade students at Westside Elementary are working on music projects for Hispanic Heritage Month. These groups worked together to research specific composers and artists. Check out these fantastic projects! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Four brave Claremore staff members took a pie in the face to support the Pre-Engineering Club, SkillsUSA, which raised $1,130 to provide meals for the homeless of Tulsa through an organization called Night Light Tulsa! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

2022 JOM INDIAN EDUCATION ELECTION One of the most important components of the JOM program is parent involvement. This October, parents of JOM eligible children will have an opportunity to get involved in developing the JOM program at Claremore Public Schools. Elections for JOM Indian Education Committee members will be held on October 4, 2022, at the CPS Enrollment Center (102 West 11th) at 6pm. To serve on the JOM IEC, a person must be the parent or guardian of a JOM verified child. School board members of spouses and school employees or spouses can not serve on the committee. 🐻🐼🐨🧔 What's your favorite creature at the Tulsa Zoo? The Tulsa Zoo came to visit second graders at Westside to teach about birds. These students learned new information and even got to meet Gracie! Gracie is an Eastern Screech Owl who showed off her neck turning abilities to fascinated students. Our presenter was a Zebra alum, Sarah Herrin Varnell. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
