CPS Art Classes team up with Community Teaching Garden.
CPS teachers are always looking for ways to partner with the community and show off the talents of their students. The elementary art teachers were thrilled to contribute three of the 12 tiles for the hopscotch path. The game is in the children's portion of the Teaching Gardens.
"We were all in," Ratcliff said. "Everybody was ready to contribute to this project. I think it's always a great opportunity when the community and the schools connect and work together."
"Anytime you have a group project, that team aspect comes into play," Ratcliff said. "Not only did our kids teamwork it on an individual site, but they also worked together with [The Master Gardeners], we team worked as a district and as a community."
The art teachers worked together to ensure each tile had its own personality. Mrs. Jen Coffey, a Cherokee Nation citizen and Catalayah's 21-22 Teacher of the Year, brought in a native influence. She taught her students to paint feathers and how to paint with a toothbrush.
Ms. Tina Francis, the Claremont art teacher, turned to technology to inspire her students. They used YouTube to help them learn to paint sunflowers.
Anyone can visit the art at the Teaching Gardens at 1564 Camden St. The Teaching Gardens are free and open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

SCENES FROM SOCCER CAMP
Coach Talbert shared, "One of the many benefits of attending a summer camp would be the exposure to different playing styles and level of play. Exposure to diversity is a key to becoming a well-rounded player. In order to be a truly great player, you must learn to adapt to the playing styles of the players on the pitch. The more diversity you see in training, the better you will be at playing with and against players from a different community, state or even country. At camp we had players from all different ability levels and ages, yet the kids came together and found a way to develop as individuals and as a team.
I would like thank all the families that brought their athletes out to camp and for their contribution to the Lady Zebras soccer program."
