👋Let’s welcome Whitney Lyons to the Zebra family in today’s New Teacher Feature!
👩🏫Mrs. Lyons is a new counselor at Westside Elementary! She graduated from OU and has been teaching since 2011.
👍When asked what she likes most about working at Claremore Public Schools, she said, “I love what a close-knit community the CPS family is! It's always a great day to be a Zebra!”
♥When asked why she teaches, she said, “I hope my students will always know that I am a safe place to lay their thoughts, feelings, and burdens they are carrying with them daily. I want them all to succeed and sometimes it's hard to succeed academically when other pieces of life are interfering with their ability to focus and cope at school. I love that I get the opportunity to work with students at such an early age on positive skills to last them a lifetime.”
‼Some interesting facts about Mrs. Lyons are that she loves the show "Good Bones" on HGTV and she met Karen Laine at a Colt’s game. Her hobbies include crafting, gardening and spending time on the lake with her family.

👨🏫Mr. Berglund is a new geography teacher at Will Rogers Junior High. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Rogers State University.
♥He teaches because he wants to help young people become the best version of themselves. His favorite thing about Claremore Public Schools is the team atmosphere.
‼Some interesting facts about Mr. Berglund are that he was an athlete growing up and throughout his time in the US Navy. He was involved in baseball, football, wrestling, track and rodeo. His hobbies include playing guitar, singing, songwriting, gardening and cooking.

These young people certainly expressed themselves and sang their way into the Northeastern Oklahoma Choral Directors Association All-District Choir.
Congratulation to Mattie Long and Brooklyn Doonkeen have qualified and been members for 3 years. Miranda Cribb, Lacey Arthur, Eva Howard, Gracie Roberts, Tavis Fontenot, Harrison Quellar, Elijah Ritter, and Eli Fouse are all first year members.

🇺🇸As we prepare to recognize Veterans Day, military members continue to serve our country and local community!
🇺🇸Mrs. Whitaker's class received a visit from military representative, Austin Barnett! These Pre-K students were not only impressed by his Navy uniform, but also excited to find out that Mr. Barnett's mother is one of their teachers, Ms. Kristi! The kids loved learning from him as he spent time reading and answering questions.

College Tour Time! Seventh grade students went on a field trip to Tulsa Community College where they toured the school and learned about all the different things TCC offers.

👋Let’s welcome Jonathan Gelnar to the Zebra family in today’s New Teacher Feature!
👨🏫Mr. Gelnar is a new US history and psychology teacher at Claremore High School, as well as the head baseball coach! He graduated with a Bachelors of History from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and a Masters of Leadership from East Central University.
♥He teaches because he wants to help guide students that will change the world. He chose to teach at Claremore Public Schools because of the tradition, culture and community.
👨👩👦Mr. Gelnar and his wife Macy have 2 sons named Jett and Jax, and a Bernese Mountain dog named Mookie!
‼Some interesting facts about Mr. Gelnar are that he played baseball in college and his son went viral last year on social media thanks to John Legend. His hobbies include traveling, church and spending time with family.

👋Let’s welcome Alysa Peterson to the Zebra family in today’s New Teacher Feature!
👩🏫Mrs. Peterson is a new 2nd and 3rd grade special education teacher at Westside Elementary. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Science in Education
👍When asked what she likes most about Claremore Public Schools, she said, “I felt supported and everyone was so welcoming right away! I am so excited to be a Claremore Zebra!”
♥She teaches because she loves to see the light bulb go off and the excitement on students' faces when it all makes sense. She has always had a special place in her heart for kids and loves making a difference in their lives. She chose Claremore Public Schools because she moved to Claremore in 2019 and instantly fell in love with it and felt at home with everyone at CPS.
‼Some interesting facts about Mrs. Peterson are that she has 2 dogs, a cat and a hedgehog named Reggie. She has also lived in 5 different states! Her hobbies include reading, traveling and exploring new places with her family.

❓Did you know that CPR can double or triple a person's chance of survival?
‼️ Oklahoma law requires that all students enrolled in a public school are to receive CPR instruction prior to graduation. Last week, we had 228 seniors complete their CPR training!!!
❤️Ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they have the skills, confidence and bravery to step-up and help a stranger in need!

Students in Mrs. Tidwell's class learned about the skeletal system and were amazed at how many bones we have in our bodies! They even got to create an almost life-sized skeleton of their own!

Claremore students recently got to participate in some very cool cultural activities for Cherokee Heritage Days! They played the game of graces and marbles, stickball, and got to listen to the amazing storyteller, Robert Lewis!

👩🏫Mrs. Grubbs is a new social studies teacher at Claremore High School. She graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelors of History.
♥She teaches because she wants to inspire and guide students to excel and feel a sense of accomplishment. When asked why she chose CPS, she said, “The community. It is my husband's hometown and I would love to give back.”
‼Some interesting facts about Mrs. Grubbs are that she and her husband Hawken have 4 kids and 2 dogs. She also lived in England for 16 years and Japan for 3 years. Her hobbies include running, reading, watching biographies and watching her kids in their extracurricular activities.

Nothing is going to stop the Claremore 1st grade Black team from playing their game! After the opposing team canceled, the coaches decided the show must go on… They put a team of coaches, parents and high school players together to scrimmage against them.
This was so much fun for the kids AND the fans. Word on the street is that these “old timers” are still recovering from the 90 to 19 stampede by the 1st graders!! 🏈

🥎Congratulations to Emily Rogers who will represent Claremore High School in the 2022 Large East All State Softball Game.
🏏For 2022 Emily's batting average was .467. She had 49 hits and her on base percentage was .525. She ended her softball career with 144 hits.
