"I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!" 1st graders enjoyed our Wacky Wednesday in the cafeteria! Every OTHER Wednesday, the wonderful women in the cafeteria serve up amazing ice cream after students have finished their lunch. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Cherokee Heritage Days was a huge hit at Catalayah!! 3rd-5th graders got to enjoy hearing stories from Robert Lewis. He did some Native American storytelling, and also talked about some of the Native American traditions and cultures. There was even some Native American artwork hanging behind him, that the kids were asking him about. Robert Lewis is a Cherokee National Treasure and an award-winning storyteller, author, and artist of Cherokee, Navajo, and Apache descent. Robert has appeared on local television and radio programs to share the wisdom and beauty of Native stories. Robert became a storyteller in spring 2003 while he was working at the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, as a tour guide for the ancient village. Robert Lewis said, “I had the opportunity to tell this story to a group of schoolchildren and parents waiting for a tour to begin. During the course of the tale, Barbara Girty, who at the time was in charge of group tours for the museum, heard me and so began this unique journey I find myself on.” Have your kids had the pleasure of listening to Mr. Lewis tell stories??? Mrs. LaValley’s 2nd-grade class at Roosa worked together to solve math equations and create a circle from puzzle pieces. This activity helped them with their math facts, teamwork and developing high-level thinking. They stayed actively engaged in their learning and helped other teams when needed. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

FRIDAYS WITH FRAZIER Congratulations to our eight Site Teacher of the Year recipients. Their colleagues chose them to represent their site for consideration for the 2021-2022 Claremore Public Schools Teacher of the Year, announced later this month. Over the next several months, each teacher will create a dossier including a personal biography and essays on education issues and trends, community involvement, philosophy of teaching, and the teaching profession. A committee will review these documents, a lesson video and host an interview with each candidate. Stay tuned to learn more about each of these fantastic teachers and why their peers choose them to represent their school. Ms. Palmer at Westside reviewed possessive nouns last week by playing "Blooket" with her 4th-grade students. Blooket is a program that asks questions in a game format, and it is very interactive and engaging. As you can see, the students loved it and the best part is it can be used for any subject area! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

During their Library lesson, Pre-K students learn about the parts of a book: front cover, spine, and back cover! Then, they got to apply what they had learned and color their own book's front cover, back cover and spine! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

WIN groups are off to a great start! Our WIN groups offer each student just "What I Need," and right now some are focusing on building strong character. Mrs. Hendrickson has been talking about self-control with her groups. They took time to discuss how Jenga could fit well with building positive character habits, how important it is to have a good foundation, and just how much self-control it takes to pull a piece out without knocking down their tower! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Francis 's Brag Board, at Claremont. The Brag Board serves to encourage students to engage in art outside of the classroom. Anything they bring to Mrs. Francis goes on the wall, and as you can see, it's getting full fast! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

There are so many significant events going on at CHS, so check out t this week's ZTV! Our students are taking a professional approach to develop their broadcasting skills and telling the CHS story along the way. 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 new Lil Zebras this school year. Congratulations to one of our paraprofessionals, Mrs. Danielle Silverstone and her husband, Robert, on the birth of their daughter, Mia Raya. Mia joined our Zebra family on October 18th at 9:35 AM, weighing 6lbs and 15oz. She was 20 inches long. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Westside's Second Grade had some very special visitors! The Tulsa Zoo's animal ambassadors Peeper and Gracie, came to teach our students all about owls! Westside alum, Sarah Harren-Varnell, came back and taught in the room that was once her classroom! She made a big impression on our students and was a fabulous example of all they can achieve! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Devers' 2nd grade class at Roosa incorporated project-based learning during a Geography Unit. They memorized the names and locations of all the 🌎🌊Continents and Oceans 🌎🌊 and then they showed off their knowledge by creating their own world map! They are dedicated to setting high goals and reaching them! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

SPLAT!!! Mrs. Roller's 1st-grade class has been splatting out their sight words!! This is a powerful and highly interactive activity. As the caller reads each sight word aloud, players scan the cards in front of them. If a player has a matching word, they say "SPLAT!" and flip the card over. The first player to flip over all of their cards wins. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🍼 Westside Elementary is adding our 2nd Lil' Zebra to the District this school year. Congratulations Mrs. Kaitlynn Hink and her husband John. Theo was born November 3, 2021, weighing in at 7lbs 9oz and 20 in long! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
