Ruby Quinn at Robson Performing Arts Center was awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Embroidery Machine for Costume Shop"! "We are so thankful for the Claremore Public School Foundation and all they do for the students. We appreciate this grant for a sewing/embroidery machine to replace the old and broken one in our costume shop. We have the CPSF to thank for all the wonderful tools/machines/equipment that they have provided to keep the Robson PAC at it's best technically and artistically. What did you read over winter break? Developing a love of reading creates lifelong learning. Graphic novels, chapter books, news articles - they all fill us with new experiences, new knowledge, new vocabulary, and expand our imagination. CPS schools have certified Library Media Specialists, several with advanced degrees, to help students discover their love for reading and research. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Hope Vinson at Westside Elementary School-Claremore Public Schools was awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Do You See What I See? Do You Hear What I Hear?" Reading Makes You A Smart Cookie! Look at these smart cookies diving into their books! One of their favorite parts about spending time in the library is talking about their favorite books with friends and finding new books to read! The elves have gone back the North Pole now that Christmas is over but the Elf magic got real around at Catalayah before break began! Students have been received sweet messages, treats, and sentiments from their magical friends. One Elf was even spotted working on some spelling! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Brassfield is teaching her students coding in Computer Class at Catalayah. They are teaching their Elves to dance while learning to code!!! Coding is the a method of communicating with a computer. It is using a language that a computer understands to give a computer instructions in order to perform specific functions. Coding allows us to create things such as computer software, websites, apps and video games. Understanding computers and learning the basics of coding helps children to develop an appreciation of how things work. From problem-solving skills, critical thinking, and creativity, there are so many reasons to learn programming. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Fulks works with her small group on reading, fluency and vocabulary. Students read a passage together and talk about the story, noting along the way vocabulary words, identifying hunk and chunks and practicing fluency while reading. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Christmas is a time of imagination. On reindeer dress-up day, we make reindeer! Mrs. Book's class did a fabulous job drawing reindeer and they even wrote a little about what they would do if they were reindeer! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Lori Roach at Will Rogers Junior High was awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Optimizing the Learning Environment in the Junior High Arts Classroom through Enhanced Visual Technology"! "The Art Teachers at WRJH are so very excited and appreciative of the grant we received that funded two smart TVs for our classrooms. Mrs. Bonham took her Catalayah 4th and 5th grade GT students on a field trip to Safenet Shelter. They also collected nine bags of clothing and several snacks to donate. As a GE Model school their class focuses on three Life Principles: Compassion, Service, and Esprit de Corp. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Rogers County TSET Healthy Living Program provided water bottles for Westside Elementary students! The fountains provide filtered water and are best used with water bottles to limit the spread of germs. We are blessed to have a community that invests in the needs of our children at CPS. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

5th grade students in Mrs. Tidwell's class spend time with Reading Buddies! Reading Buddies are a new introduction to our library - and are so fun! Mrs. Troyer, our Library Media Specialist, introduced Reading Buddies as a way for students to have more time practicing reading out loud - increasing confidence, fluency and ability! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Karin Howell and Shauna Johnson at Claremont Elementary were awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Secret Stories"! "Secret Stories is a science of reading based program that aids in cracking the code to our language based on how the brain learns to read! The toolkit provided by this grant will eliminate the hassle of teachers creating their own researched based phonics instruction and hopefully reduce the amount of frustrated readers! Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read. The earlier the intervention the better for our students. 1st grade at Roosa spent two weeks reading and comparing different gingerbread stories from the Gingerbread Cowboy to the Gingerbread Ninja. The week ended with a special treat of gingerbread man snacks. That afternoon the class discovered that their gingerbread man snacks had run away in the school! They read their final book Gingerbread Man Loose in the School by Laura Murray and when they went back to the classroom, their snacks were gone! The week ended with a special treat of gingerbread man snacks. Students passed out wanted posters and went on a scavenger hunt to recover the missing snacks. When the students went back to class, they found the gingerbread man snacks back in the classroom! They devoured them this time before they ran away again! Engaging students IN the story makes reading fun! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
