Were new substances formed or not? 🧪
Mrs. Tietz's High School Physical Science class has been studying chemical and physical changes.
One station has a reaction between baking soda and vinegar that blew up a balloon.
One station had a reaction between liver and hydrogen peroxide. It bubbled and got hot. They formed a precipitate with ammonia and copper 2 sulfate. They turned water red, blew some bubbles, ate a cracker, put butane in a baggie and watched the baggie expand.

This #CPSTechTipTuesday will review some very important steps to help you stay safe while online.
The Internet is a vast place and collection of information, documents, images, and videos. It can be a useful and scary place at the same time. That is why it is important to help students and parents understand how to stay safe while browsing the Internet.

Roosa's 5th grade teachers played an April Fools Day joke on their students, last week. They had the students fill out “new” elective forms for the Jr. High. They were able to choose from some quality electives.
💃🏼 Athletics: Ballroom Dancing and Extreme Jump Roping
🐷 Foreign Language: Pig Latin
🙋🏼♀️ Life Skills: Interpretive Armpit Sounds and How to hold your Breath
👕 Consumer Sciences: Making Laundry Fun and Using/Programming your VCR.
😅 Students were relieved to discover they were not "actually" the electives offered!

Kindergartners at Claremont got caught throwing a ball in class. While working on digraphs in WIN Time, students were given a word, and students would throw a ball what digraph was in the word.

April is National Library Month, so our #MondayMotivation is inspired by Harper Lee, author of To Kill A Mockingbird, who reminds us that we generally see what we look for and hear what we listen for.
Let's look and listen for the positive, the common good, the hope for a better tomorrow, and for what is edifying.

Mrs. Talbert's English III class is reviewing sentence structure to prepare for the upcoming ACT. But that didn't stop her from using April Fools to teach them a lesson - just not one they were expecting.
She had 180 eggs in total: 100 candy eggs and 80 extra credit eggs 😉😉. She told the students that the eggs labeled with an "x" were worth 1pt extra credit. In reality, the "x" eggs contained sentence strips. Students had to identify if the sentence was simple, compound, complex, or compound-complex. "All jokes aside, I have the best students!"

Jeanette Travis is one of two Claremore High School Teacher of the Year site winners. Ms. Travis has been a social studies teacher here since 2005. Ms.Travis believes a passion for teaching and utilizing innovative methods makes good educators. These two philosophies combined help students in her classroom. She also believes that what makes an excellent educator is what they possess outside of the contract day - an "organic drive, passion, and dedication for student learning."
Her goal is to teach beyond the state-mandated curriculum and incorporate ways that engage various learning styles. She includes podcasts, online articles, professional videos and finds value in sparking students' creativity through "old school" posters to enrich her curriculum. She believes a teacher should not only teach but prepare students to be able to apply knowledge.
As the Student Council sponsor, her class, facilitates activities for Teacher Appreciation Week. She encourages school spirit in the staff and student body through her StuCo class events, such as pep assemblies and signs that hang in the halls of CHS.
Supporting other educators is one of her goals. Ms. Travis serves on various committees and helps coordinate professional development for her peers. She utilizes these times to help her peers acclimate and grow. For example, after the walkout, and through the COVID pandemic, she has helped teachers integrate new technology into their instructional process. Both times, she leveraged her peers' experience, strengths, and best practices to create practical, relevant, imaginative, through these sessions.
Ms. Travis concludes that students and colleagues define an excellent educator, "This is where true accountability and effectiveness can be measured."
