The Claremore MoH and Claremore Public Schools are partnering to celebrate a historical event and showcase several exciting new developments in the community. Roosa Space Day is open to the entire community.
It will feature the 🚀Journey to Space STEM Event in the newly completed Innovation STEM Center at CHS, funded by the #CPSZebraBond2019 and the 🌓To The Moon And Back Event at the MOH.

ARTS IN EDUCATION WEEK
CPS is fortunate to continue to offer a variety of the Arts in our educational program.
Students in Art I at CHS have been exploring the restricted use of line in creating artwork. There was no color or shading allowed. They had to recreate or design an interesting but simple line drawing to execute in puffy paint on chipboard. Students began stretching aluminum around their puffy paint drawings. Students also had to etch the aluminum foil with like work to create interesting detail and eye flow to their piece. Finally, they created the illusion of a weathered metal appearance using shoe polish and the selective buffing method.
This is one you can try at home. Materials used: pencils, chipboard, puffy paint, glue, aluminum foil, shoe polish.

1st grade students in Mrs. Ward's class are working on number words.
To enhance learning, they did a partner activity. One kid rolled a dice and both kids wrote the number word for the rolled number. It was super fun!

Fun Buckets! It's pretty much their second favorite time of the day - after recess, for Mrs. Geranen's class at Catlyahah.
The kids get to pick an activity to work on until Rise and Shine begins in the morning.
This year Rise and Shine is presented through a Google Meet projected on our Smartboard in each class. This procedure allows the site to continue with its Great Expectations model and remain classroom cohorts.
4th grade students were surprised by a book tasting! Mrs. Schell and Mrs. Harrison's classes spent time perusing books of different genres to learn more about each genre and identify their genre preference.

3rd grade students in Mrs. Millsap's class had quite the experience in their "Genre Café," where they had the opportunity to explore different genres of books in small groups to understand better both the genre classification and which genres they might like best.

5th graders in Mrs. Tidwell's class had fun with a STEM activity to see who could stack pencils the highest!

Kindergarten students spend time in centers working on learning through play. Learning through play is one of the best ways for a child to develop a sense of adventure and nurture their imagination.

5th grade is studying the grueling voyage from England to Jamestown. During the month voyage, one of the many hardships was the lack of fresh water and food on the ships so that a meal could consist of dried cracker type food, hardtack, and dried meat. The 5th grade classes at Roosa were trying out what that would be like, WITHOUT taking a drink of water. The students had four unsalted saltines and some beef jerky. The activity was a great way to understand what the colonists had to endure.

Mrs. Beasley's 3rd grade class read the book, My Mouth is a Volcano. This is a story about waiting your turn and maintaining self control. After reading the book the students made a journal entry about how they can control themselves before they ERUPT!!

Things are heating up over in Mrs. T's Pre-K classroom at Westside! These students are working hard in small groups during center time. Center work for these friends included shape matching, counting 1-10, ABC matching, magnet play, Lego train, and bristle blocks. Students also used colored pencils to decorate their names. They were so proud of being able to recognize their name or some of the letters!

Procedures are some of the most important things taught - all year - but especially at the beginning of the year and these first graders are rocking their procedures!
Ask your student about some of their classroom procedures. You might be surprised to find out that some of them are similar to the ones you use in your own home!
