The seniors have spoken and chosen 8 King and 8 Queen candidates for this year's royal court. Tonight they will reveal the 2020 Homecoming King and Queen, the entire student body has selected. Coronation will take place at 6:30 PM on Lantow Field. In all honesty, you don't need to be in the running for king or queen to look forward to homecoming. It's your last high school homecoming hoorah with your crew. Whether you are a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, this moment will always have its memories. The Zenith, work comp insurance carrier for Claremore Public Schools, recognized CPS for their efforts to better the school’s employee safety and health programs. A $500 donation was made to Claremore Public Schools Foundation from Zenith’s Charitable Giving Fund. Zenith representatives Kristi Talley Abdo, Sr Oklahoma Territory Marketing Manager and Andrew McBride, Sr Safety & Health Consultant (not pictured) delivered the check to the School Foundation and Neely Insurance and Financial Services matched their $500 donation! "Music is what feeling sounds like," unknown. Recently, 19 students from Claremore High School (CHS) sang their way to feeling accomplished, proud, excited, and honored. Why? Because they were selected to the 2020-21 Northeastern Choral Directors Association All-District Choir. These students gained membership through a choir singing audition process and were chosen based on the highest score. The competition included other students from several schools across northeastern Oklahoma, including Bixby, Owasso, and Bartlesville. This year two CHS students are receiving 6-Year medals. This distinguished and prestigious honor awarded to students selected to the All-District Choir every year from 7th through 12th grade. Kaitlyn Pinkerton and Max Stadler have demonstrated their commitment to improving and perfecting their vocal talents will be recognized for their accomplishments. The honor choir performs every year at 1st Baptist Church in downtown Tulsa. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, there will be no Honor Choir concert this year. However, you can hear these 19 choir members and their counterparts on December 12th at the annual CHS Christmas Concert. IT'S HOMECOMING WEEK Over the past 100+ years, homecoming has grown into a production rivaling any 6A high school and even several colleges in Oklahoma. Claremore High School is rooted in tradition, but those traditions did not all begin on day one. Graduating classes have started, stopped, added, and changed those traditions over the years, and it's expected 100 years from now, they will continue to change. This year 59 CHS students receive recognition, in the homecoming festivities, for their outstanding efforts and contributions to CHS. Fifty-nine students actively participate and lead in an average of 5 co-curricular and extracurricular activities at CHS. Have you ever dreamed of floating through the clouds? Today Mrs. Rahn's classes will be a part of the Mid-Atmospheric Balloon Launch. Mrs. Rahn's class is partnering with the Smithsonian US Air & Space Museum with the Balloon Launch Across America! We are one of 8 schools across the country who will be launching the balloons. Students are doing a Neutral Buoyancy Lab to prepare for a Mid-Atmospheric Balloon Launch. They used Helium filled balloons and different weights to allow balloons to hover in a neutral space without positive or negative buoyancy. Each balloon has a small satellite and tracker where students will see "Real-Time Data" and track the balloon's journey. Our goal is to have our balloon travel around the world! The Cherokee Nation will be providing drive-thru vaccine clinics around NE Oklahoma October-December. Cherokee Nation citizens and their families, including non-Native family members living in the household. Ages 6 months or older can get a flu vaccine for free from the convenience of their vehicles. For a complete Cherokee Nation flu vaccination schedule, also visit health.cherokee.org/community-flu-clinics. “The viruses that cause influenza and COVID-19 will both be spreading through our communities this fall and winter and you can potentially become infected with both,” said Roger Montgomery, executive medical director for Cherokee Nation Health Services. “Getting a flu shot won’t prevent COVID-19 infection but it will reduce your chance of getting influenza. Please take advantage of the proven protection that comes from getting a flu shot.”
