TODAY is ZAP during Encore! CHS students will meet with their Zebra Advisement Program teacher to discuss how they have the power to effect change and how to use that personal power to positively influence others.
They will also have some time to work on their ICAP (Individual Career Academic Plan)!

It may be the beginning of the block but it's not too early to get ahead or too late to catch up. Remember CHS has FREE tutoring for our students during the week. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

As technology advances in nearly all fields, the demand for highly skilled workers is at an all-time high. That’s why awareness and advocating for education that thinks outside the box and gives students real-world skills and a direct path to a good-paying job is becoming more critical than ever.
Tomorrow all our sophomores will see first-hand what programs our local career-tech has to offer them. Students can attend for free during their 11th & 12th-grade year.

Inquiry-based learning is vital to preparing our students for their future careers. Mrs. Kellie Dixon's science class at WRJH is completing a lab testing and checking for density.
There is more to it than "Does it float?" Knowing the density of a material helps determine the mass and volume, all of which are vital measurements in all industries.
Right here in NEOK we have several industries that revolve around this scientific principle, GRDA, McClellan-Kerr Navigation System, and Hydrohoist, to name a few. These businesses employ hundreds of our citizens and maybe one of these students in a few years.

Nothing is more exciting to a grade school student than the Book Fair. It's a tradition at Claremore FFA to help bring even more joy to a first-grade class each year when the book fair comes to town. Today Claremore FFA purchased each student a $5 book, read it with them, and then spent some time hanging out with a particular student at Roosa Elementary. It's incredible the joy this small act of kindness brings my students as well as the first-grade students.

Mrs. Cox's Geography class at WRJH made a human timeline today while studying the Russian Revolution.
Using a human timeline explores the 'thinking for yourself' approach to timelines. Students actively involved in engaging their creativity through props, pictures, costumes, which makes this strong visual activity memorable. 'Memorability' is vital - if students don't remember an activity, they can't re-use what they've covered.
The most productive timeline work involves children being physically and mentally engaged. It allows students to use a variety of learning styles to learn dates, places, and events in history.

Are you wondering what we did with those pumpkins WRJH students carried in all last week?
The 6th-grade science classes had a pumpkin lab showing the carrying capacity, limiting factor, and biotic potential of pumpkins.
And got a little messy in the process! This is what we call "hands-on" learning!

Mrs. Ritter's 5th-grade science class at, Catalayah, makes some waves this week. What a fun way to learn the beginning principles of how sound waves have a wavelength. Using jump ropes, students could create a high pitch and low pitch sound wave, allowing them to see, hear, and feel this concept come to life.
Waves are used for many reasons in our society: sonar, reading glasses, light bulbs, stereo equipment, and lasers all rely on either sound or light waves. For engineers to develop new (and already used) technology, they must understand how light and sound waves work and how to use them in new devices.

CPS has produced one astronaut, and we may have some future ones in our midst. In Mrs. Rahn's Exploration class, students are building Mars Rovers and Landers.
Assuming the role of NASA aerospace engineers, they will use the engineering design process to learn steps for designing, creating, and improving equipment. What a creative way to develop an understanding of the role of troubleshooting, research and development, invention and innovation, and experiment in problem-solving for our students.
Upon completion of this project, students will be incorporating their writing skills as they construct an essay for the NASA contest to name the next Mars Rover!
Who knows, maybe one of these students could be the next Stuart Roosa or Shannon Lucid, both astronauts from Oklahoma.

Guest speakers often allow students the opportunity to learn new things, to be exposed to fresh perspectives, and to gain instruction from a guest's real-life experiences. They usually are experts in their field or have more experience in a particular subject, which allows them to dive deeper into their topic.
Claremont had several guest speakers in the building last week. Renetta Harrison educated 4th-grade students on healthy choices. Mr. Tim Gilliam provided students with musical enrichment, and the Claremore Fire Department taught all on fire safety.

At WRJH Mrs. Miller's Art classes, students are assigned a word of the week. After sketching the lettering, the student chose a color for their monochromatic color scheme. Shading each letter in a different media, they experimented with colored pencil, crayon, watercolor, pastel chalk, oil pastel, yarn, ribbon, and fabric. The students then fill the background with complementary colors on the color wheel. Check out our word of the week color chain!
