Ms. Henry at Catalayah Elementary, gave her students the opportunity to teach the teacher (and class). The students could pick any topic they wanted and were even able to bring props if they wanted. Here are some pictures of the ones that were able to "teach" today. Such an exciting activity for everyone to learn something new!🌎♥👩🏻‍🏫👨🏻‍🏫 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Thank you to Claremore NJROTC for their service and dedication to making Claremore Graduation the best! They showed up early to set up, presented the Colors at the ceremony, filmed with their drones, stayed late to clean up, and went back the next day to pick up trash to ensure Lantow Field was in tip-top shape! Thank you NJROTC!🦓⚓♥ #CPSZEBRAPRIDE #NJROTC

Happy retirement to Marcia Rennick. Let's give her a virtual 👏ovation for her years of service in the comments. 🍎 What year did you start teaching for CPS and at what school? I started teaching in 1981. I began teaching in Claremore in 1989 at Westside Elementary and I have taught here for 34 years. 🍎 How many years were you a CPS employee? 34 years 🍎 How many years have you been in education? 42 years 🍎 What are you most proud of in your time at CPS? I am proud of being able to help students improve and have confidence in their Reading skills. 🍎 What are the memories you will take with you? I have many wonderful memories of all the students who have worked hard to achieve their Reading goals and the many dedicated teachers I have worked with as a team to support them. One memory I will always remember is our Football Homecoming assemblies in the Fall. It was so great to see our Westside students who were in High School come back! 🍎 What advice would you give a new teacher? I advise new teachers never to assume what students know because we now have students from so many backgrounds. Also, show your students that you care about them and they will want to learn everything you want to teach them! 🍎 Tell us about a student you impacted during your career that you will always hold close to your heart. I once had a student who had always made D's and F's. We worked on strategies to help when taking tests and I will never forget the first time he took a test and he said "Wow!, Miss Rennick, I made a C. I have never passed a test before!" His awe made me realize how much a teacher could help change students' perspectives on their abilities. 🍎 What does it mean to be a Zebra to you? A Claremore Zebra is a reader who is eager to learn all they can in life! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Happy retirement to Deborah Simpson. Let's give her a virtual 👏ovation for her years of service in the comments. 🍎 What year did you start teaching for CPS and at what school? I started teaching in 1985 but joined the Zebra Family this year! 🍎 How many years were you a CPS employee? 1 year 🍎 How many years have you been in education? 31 years 🍎 What are you most proud of in your time at CPS? I am most proud of choosing to make a difference in the lives of special needs students. 🍎 What are the memories you will take with you? I will cherish memories of working with loving students and dedicated colleagues 🍎 What advice would you give a new teacher? Approach each day with a smile in your heart. Some students will be challenging and some days will be difficult, but remember that you are a difference-maker. 🍎 Tell us about a student you impacted during your career that you will always hold close to your heart. I had a student who was a 5th grader who could not read. His mom reported that he hated school. During our work together, he gained skills to unlock the world of books and discovered that, although reading remained challenging for him, he had the tenacity to confront challenges and the will to succeed. 🍎 What does it mean to be a Zebra to you? Being a Zebra means believing in the potential, possibility, and power of each child. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Happy retirement to Kari Forest. Let's give her a virtual 👏ovation for her years of service in the comments. 🍎 What year did you start teaching for CPS and at what school? I began my career at Claremore in the fall of 2001 as Counselor at Central Upper Elementary, and I have been a member of the Zebra Family for 22 years. 🍎 How many years were you a CPS employee? 22years 🍎 How many years have you been in education? 43 years, I started my career in the Fall of 1980! 🍎 What are you most proud of in your time at CPS? I am most proud of being given the opportunity to be a Counselor and a Principal in the District. I feel it gave me so many chances to be involved with so many students and their parents, hopefully impacting their lives in a positive way. 🍎 What are the memories you will take with you? Memories….so many, it’s hard to say…..All the amazing educators I have met and worked with throughout the years, and all the students I hope have benefitted from crossing paths with me in some way. 🍎 What advice would you give a new teacher? Advice to a new teacher: God bless you for your commitment to the students of this age. It is a challenge, but worth it. (Teacher’s Retirement Benefits aren’t bad either!) 🍎 Tell us about a student you impacted during your career that you will always hold close to your heart. It’s not just one student who I will hold close to my heart, it’s a group of students…my “CUE kids”. When CUE closed in Spring 2011, the 5th graders had already moved to the lower elementary schools and the 6th graders moved on to WRJH. I spent the following year helping implement the Enrollment Center and then was moved to the High School as Counselor in Fall 2012. I loved seeing my “CUE kids” grow up and come through High School. The last group graduated in 2018….the end of an era! I often run into “CUE Kids” as adults and it amazes me that they remember me, but most of all, it’s so great to hear their stories and see where they are now! 🍎 What does it mean to be a Zebra to you? Once a Zebra, always a Zebra!! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
