Kindergarteners are always learning so our staff is always teaching. Even as they wait for pick up, Mrs. Freeman engages students with an end-of-day activity to reinforce their learning. She holds up a letter on a flashcard, the students make the sound of that letter and then she has to guess the letter! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

CPS appreciates our School Resource Officers (SRO). They are not just here to deter the negative things but to be proactive and build relationships with the students, staff and families. The SRO assignment is unique within the law enforcement profession. These officers fill a three-part role, serving as informal mentors or counselors, law educators and law enforcement officers to support the students and communities they serve. They are valuable and essential members of the education community who deserve unwavering respect and support from the public in the pursuit of keeping schools and students safe. CPS has two SROs for its six campuses. Officer Nate Turman, whose primary responsibility is secondary and Officer Bobby Hagan, whose primary responsibility is elementary, although they ultimately cover all CPS campuses, as needed. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Relationships and connections create a positive learning environment. The connection helps students feel accepted, heard, seen, and important. Simple acts can build a bridge that allows teachers to challenge students, create trust so students can fail forward, and makes students feel safe in unfamiliar content. Just this week, Ms. Nicks was getting her hair fixed by some students before storytime. On another day, some students paid big zebra bucks to eat lunch with Ms. Palmer & Ms. Reyes. These little acts of relationship build a foundation for learning. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🔎How do you solve a mystery? 📏Mrs. Roller's class used standard measurement in their "who done it." With three suspects identified, students had to find clues around the classroom and use their rulers to measure the clues in inches. When they finished they matched up their clues with the suspects and found the criminal!! PS... it was Granny!! 👵🏼 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Mrs. Acord and some band members are visiting our elementary sites to introduce them to band, an elective available next year when they enter junior high. Band members demonstrate all the instruments in the beginning band and play "name that tune." Some 5th graders even get to try out the instruments. As you can see - we have some naturals in the group. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🚀A 5th-grade WIN group blasted off to space with a research project! ☀The students took on their missions seriously and conducted research to determine the distance from the sun, period of rotation and revolution, diameter, density, surface temperature and surface gravity. The findings of their missions helped them determine if life could actually exist elsewhere. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🗻What causes a mountain range? 🕳Or a deep trench on the ocean floor? Students are learning about tectonic plates and what happens when two plates come together, known as a convergent boundary. When plates collide, the impact can cause them to buckle, creating a mountain, or bend, creating a trench. Check out this model of a tectonic plate boundary! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
