4th grade students expanded their knowledge of area and perimeter through a STEM activity. Students were instructed to see if they could build the tallest structure possible with spaghetti noodles and marshmallows.
The catch: they could only use pieces under 6" long and had to build around a 10"X14" piece of paper.
They had a blast!

Students love to play sizzle, sizzle, boom to help study their weekly spelling words. Mrs. Stone's third grade students played a few exciting rounds before their test. Miss Ryanne was this round's winner. Keep up the fabulous work, third grade!

Kindergarten students learned about hibernation and then celebrated with a hibernation party! Students were invited to come to school in their PJs and bring a stuffed animal to school for the day! 😴🧸

Mrs. Cole’s dinosaur unit has come to and end, but not without an exciting finale! They erupted their volcano and discussed the possibility that this may have been the cause for dinosaur extinction. 🌋🦖🦕

In Mrs. Simmonds' class, students are using Science Stations to solidify Plate Boundary movement and the resulting landforms. This helps to reach all learning styles and make learning a concept fun!

In the Innovation Lab, 3rd-5th graders learned about the fundamentals
of robotics through Vex Robotics. Using the engineering design process, they designed and built their robots, tested their designs, problem solved obstacles, reevaluated solutions and then retested modifications.

Students in Mrs Rahn’s STEM class learned about the engineering principles involved with bridge design & building.🛠 In teams, students designed bridges, created blueprints then built their bridge out of 1/8” balsa wood!
Each bridge was tested to see how much weight it could hold. Each test was conducted in front of a green screen so students could then super impose their own desired background into the video. How cool is that?!

Snowball fight! ❄️Mrs. Campbell's class had a sight word snowball fight. Each paper snowball had a sight word on it and students would throw and gather paper snowballs to practice reading their words.

4th graders went on a text structure scavenger hunt in their English Language Arts classes. Cards were all over the classroom and students read the card and determined if the card described a cause & effect, sequence or compare & contrast. The 4th graders used their problem-solving skills to get the task done!

Select students from the Westside Honor Choir recently attended Circle the State with Song in Owasso. They began their day rehearsing with almost 250 students ranging from grades 4th-8th. Westside students then had 8 pieces to perform alongside students from Owasso, Catoosa, Inola, and other districts. We are so proud of our talented students and for the support and direction of Mrs. Gaylord!

Claremore NJROTC Corps of Cadets Varsity Drone Team competed in Oklahoma City (Western Heights High School) against Del City, Western Heights, Alma (AR), Mountain Home (AR), and Willard (MO).

First grade students love using whisper phones! 📞This is a great activity for growing readers.📘 Students speak into their whisper phones, allowing these auditory readers to hear themselves quietly reading.🤫

Who remembers playing the recorder in elementary school?
This unit is usually a favorite memory for our 4th graders. A musical recorder is a woodwind instrument with eight finger holes played like a whistle.
Claremore music classes practice notes and scales on the recorders. We may have some future band members getting their start during these lessons.
