Reading helps students to make sense of not only the world around them, but also people in the book. These students are reading "Wonder", a novel about a 5th grade boy that teaches the importance of kindness, tolerance and acceptance.

Even Pre-K students work on technology literacy!
Did you know, with technology and interactive media, learning becomes a multisensory and interactive experience! Devices can promote learning and development when used intentionally and within the framework of developmentally- appropriate practice to support learning goals and expand educational opportunities for all children.

While learning about plate tectonics and boundaries, Mrs. Boyd's classes were able to use Milky Ways and Oreos to show each type of boundary and what occurs there! We love lessons that are fun and delicious!! 🍫🍪

Small groups are a BIG part of Westside’s learning. It's so important to develop creative and intentional ways to help every student find personal success. Small groups, BIG results! 💪🏽❤️🦓

"Say something positive and you'll see something positive" -Jim Thompson
What better way to start the morning than with positive affirmations? Mrs. Shuck went in early and made this wall of affirmations for her staff and encouraged them to take whatever they needed for that day! Let's all share some positivity today ☀😄

Students love to play sizzle, sizzle, boom to help study their weekly spelling words. Mrs. Stone's third grade students played a few exciting rounds before their test. Miss Ryanne was this round's winner. Keep up the fabulous work, third grade!

4th grade students expanded their knowledge of area and perimeter through a STEM activity. Students were instructed to see if they could build the tallest structure possible with spaghetti noodles and marshmallows.
The catch: they could only use pieces under 6" long and had to build around a 10"X14" piece of paper.
They had a blast!

Kindergarten students learned about hibernation and then celebrated with a hibernation party! Students were invited to come to school in their PJs and bring a stuffed animal to school for the day! 😴🧸

In the Innovation Lab, 3rd-5th graders learned about the fundamentals
of robotics through Vex Robotics. Using the engineering design process, they designed and built their robots, tested their designs, problem solved obstacles, reevaluated solutions and then retested modifications.

In Mrs. Simmonds' class, students are using Science Stations to solidify Plate Boundary movement and the resulting landforms. This helps to reach all learning styles and make learning a concept fun!

Mrs. Cole’s dinosaur unit has come to and end, but not without an exciting finale! They erupted their volcano and discussed the possibility that this may have been the cause for dinosaur extinction. 🌋🦖🦕

4th graders went on a text structure scavenger hunt in their English Language Arts classes. Cards were all over the classroom and students read the card and determined if the card described a cause & effect, sequence or compare & contrast. The 4th graders used their problem-solving skills to get the task done!

Select students from the Westside Honor Choir recently attended Circle the State with Song in Owasso. They began their day rehearsing with almost 250 students ranging from grades 4th-8th. Westside students then had 8 pieces to perform alongside students from Owasso, Catoosa, Inola, and other districts. We are so proud of our talented students and for the support and direction of Mrs. Gaylord!

Snowball fight! ❄️Mrs. Campbell's class had a sight word snowball fight. Each paper snowball had a sight word on it and students would throw and gather paper snowballs to practice reading their words.
