This week we will find out some of our CPS Library Media Specialist’s favorites. Vanessa Mudd, Roosa Elementary 📕 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻/𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀? My favorite book to read to students and my own kids is It's Not Easy Being a Bunny by Marilyn Sadler. This book is so fun to read because it teaches a lesson while being funny. 📕 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? My favorite all time book is The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats - the pictures are AMAZING in that book and I remember my first-grade teacher reading that book to me. 📕 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers by Maxwell King is the current book I am reading. I received this book as a Christmas gift from my kids. I love it because Mr. Rogers has always been an inspiration to me. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

This week we will find out some of our CPS Library Media Specialist’s favorites. Donna Eddings, WRJH 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻/𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀? My children are grown now, but whenever they were small, we read Dr. Seuss books each night at bedtime. We had a subscription to the Dr. Seuss book club and we really enjoyed reading all of those books. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? Picking an all-time favorite book is a very difficult thing to do. Most often, my favorite book is whichever one I am currently reading. I do, however, have a favorite genre, which is historical fiction. I recently read "The Light in Hidden Places", by Sharon Cameron. Though it is fiction, it is based on real events and is set during the Holocaust. I highly recommend it. I read a lot as a child, and some of my favorite books included, The "Ramona" collection, by Beverly Cleary, "Charlotte's Web", by E. B. White, "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls, and "The Wizard of Oz'', by Frank L. Baum. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴? I am currently reading "Class Act" by Jerry Craft. It is the sequel to his book "The New Kid", which won the 2020 Newbery Award. "The New Kid" is the first graphic novel to win that award and I enjoyed it so much that I'm excited to read the next book. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The past few weeks have been tough on my art II kids; they are "SO TIRED OF MAKING DOTS," but I snapped pictures of their projects and showed them, their eyes lit up, and then said, "THAT'S SO COOL," and they're proud of themselves. That is an especially difficult question. I have so many favorites. My favorites to read aloud are those that try to engage the students during the story. Books that make them want to check that book out immediately after I've read it. Virtual Kindergarten students come in 1 at a time to do their Claremore Assessment Portfolio. The portfolio is a collection of skills Kindergarteners need to master by the end of Kindergarten. We use these assessments to evaluate the student on their report cards. We work on writing the alphabet in uppercase and lowercase, identifying sounds, writing sentences, and counting to 100 by 1's and 10's! My favorite book to read to MY children is John Ronald’s Dragons or Finding Winnie. My favorite book to read to my students is The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson. The Day You Begin is a beautiful story of self-love and acceptance. I cannot read it without tearing up. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗹𝗹-𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? My all time favorite book...this is a hard one. My favorite book tends to change depending on the stage of life I’m in. The book I’ve read the most: Brave New World by Alduous Huxley.
