5th grade students in Mrs. Tidwell's class spend time with Reading Buddies!
Reading Buddies are a new introduction to our library - and are so fun! Mrs. Troyer, our Library Media Specialist, introduced Reading Buddies as a way for students to have more time practicing reading out loud - increasing confidence, fluency and ability!

1st grade at Roosa spent two weeks reading and comparing different gingerbread stories from the Gingerbread Cowboy to the Gingerbread Ninja. The week ended with a special treat of gingerbread man snacks.
That afternoon the class discovered that their gingerbread man snacks had run away in the school! They read their final book Gingerbread Man Loose in the School by Laura Murray and when they went back to the classroom, their snacks were gone! The week ended with a special treat of gingerbread man snacks.
Students passed out wanted posters and went on a scavenger hunt to recover the missing snacks. When the students went back to class, they found the gingerbread man snacks back in the classroom! They devoured them this time before they ran away again!
Engaging students IN the story makes reading fun!

Karin Howell and Shauna Johnson at Claremont Elementary were awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Secret Stories"!
"Secret Stories is a science of reading based program that aids in cracking the code to our language based on how the brain learns to read! The toolkit provided by this grant will eliminate the hassle of teachers creating their own researched based phonics instruction and hopefully reduce the amount of frustrated readers! Every child deserves the opportunity to learn to read. The earlier the intervention the better for our students. A big thank you to the CPSF!"-Karin Howell, Claremont 2nd Grade Teacher

Rogers County TSET Healthy Living Program provided water bottles for Westside Elementary students! The fountains provide filtered water and are best used with water bottles to limit the spread of germs.
We are blessed to have a community that invests in the needs of our children at CPS.

During WIN time, some 5th graders learned the basics of digital video editing and broadcasting while giving our community an update on Santa and what is going on at the North Pole.
Students practiced storytelling, writing, oral presentation skills and practiced using a teleprompter, videoing equipment, and editing.
Check out their creativity, vocabulary, and public speaking skills. We see some future CHS ZTV students in the mix.

Mrs. Branco held sleigh races last week !!!
We think if Santa ever needs an assistant he should come interview at Catalayah.

Students at Claremont had the opportunity to give back to the officers who keep our school, streets, and city safe again this year in our Adopt a Cop program.
Classroom teachers "adopted" a police officer and together, with our amazing Claremont families, provided a basket of favorites for each officer. This is such an amazing opportunity for our students to create positive relationships with the CPD and show our officers how much we appreciate what they do for Claremore!

What is Leadership?
Claremore's NJROTC "Corps of Cadets" are learning through a series of leadership seminars chaired by our school's top leaders.
So far, Dr. Hindenburg and Coach Key have spent time with the Cadets, discussing their leadership successes (and stumbles). The discussion(s) allow the Cadets to interface with our leadership and ask hard questions - on what has worked for them and what has not.
Cadet Executive Officer Zachary Vernon stated after the most recent leadership discussion, "There are lots of ways to learn leadership, but listening to leaders share their experiences augments and enhances our classroom study, and we get to know our faculty better."
The Corps will continue the monthly "leadership and ethics" series of discussions through the end of the school year.

Claremore Pre-Engineering program served at Night Light Tulsa last night because becoming socially responsible is part of becoming a productive member of our society.
Night Light Tulsa is an opportunity to build relationships with members of Tulsa’s homeless community and inner city neighborhoods. They currently serve between 250-300 individuals and cook an average of 440 hamburgers every Thursday evening under the bridge at the intersection of Maybelle and Reconciliation Way.
The community organization provides a warm meal, clothing, essential items, books, foot washing, a kids zone, hosting, etc. Through these stations, their hope is that their guests will know they are important and cared for.

Vona Cardwell at Roosa Elementary School and Claremont Elementary was awarded a 2021 Fall Grant for "Robotics with Vex for the Competitive Flex"!
"CPSF funded an extraordinary two-part Vex Robotics Grant that will provide our elementary students with an advanced enriched robotics program using the same platform as the one adopted by our Claremore Junior-High and High-School. By adopting the same platform at the elementary level, our students will acquire a secure foundation in robotics and engineering long before many of their peers. The VexGo Robots will be integrated into our robotics curriculum in our Innovation Labs, and the VexIQ Robots will be utilized in two of our new after-school robotics clubs. This is an incredible opportunity for all of our students to strengthen critical thinking, and problem solving skills; learn essential life skills, such as teamwork and collaboration; and perhaps discover a passion they may not have otherwise known existed. Thank you CPSF!"- Vona Cardwell, Roosa/Claremont Innovation Lab Facilitator
