Here is a sneak peek of what is happening at Catalayah on this Distance Learning Day. Our outstanding IT Department is here to install Promethean Boards for Kindergarten- 3rd grade classes!!! We are so fortunate to have such an AMAZING IT crew. A Promethean Board is a whiteboard that connects to a computer, allowing teachers to project and interact with images on its screen. The teachers were so excited to learn how to use this instructional tool on our DL day; they were ready when the students returned today!! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

What is your word for 2022? Mrs. Castle's 3rd-grade class at Catalayah picked a word they want to live by for 2022!!! They chose a word and explained why they decided on it and even told us how they could achieve it!! Mrs. Castle plans to check in with them in a month and see how they are doing with their words. What a great life lesson on living with purpose and goal setting for our students. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

It's another Distance Learning day; teachers will log on and engage students, thanks to the #CPSZEBRABOND2019 1:1 technology that has been distributed district-wide to all our students. Teachers will be logging on from their homes today and will be available during school hours. It's not the optimum teaching/learning situation, but we are glad to be teaching/learning while keeping our staff and students safe. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

The critique boards are just a big color hug!! Mrs. Williams is "SOOOOO excited about her Art II class! They are incredibly hard workers and bursting with creativity and personality!" Materials used for the project: book paper, watercolor, sharpie, spray paint, block out shapes, and gold paint pen! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Kindergarten students play with play dough as a part of their center rotations. Play dough is so good for our younger students as it aids in creativity and builds on small motor skills! As a BONUS, it makes learning fun! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

We might have some future architects in Pre-K! Students enjoy the opportunity to work on all kinds of skills during center time - including the skill of building! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🚀 Roosa students created space themed art in honor of Stuart Roosa Day, January 31. First through fifth graders used crayons, oil pastels and watercolors to implement a wax resist with their art. Kindergarten used Jackson Pollock style splatter painting for the background of their space shuttles and finished up by using their fine motor skills to cut out stars and their space shuttle before they attached it to their painted paper. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼🍼 = 6 little Zebras for the 21-22 school year! Congratulations to Mrs. Bonnie Wiley on the birth of her baby girl, Bella Lynn! She was born on Jan. 26th, weighing 8lbs 9oz and measuring 21". Mrs. Wiley is an English teacher at WRJH and a shoutout to her proud Auntie, Ms. Elizabeth Wickham, a CHS teacher. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

What was your dream in elementary school? It looks like the first female president will be from Catalayah!! We also have a rapper, NFL or NBA player, and several students may have a career in social work or humanitarian aid. Mrs. Desy's 2nd-grade class created this "I Have A Dream" project after their lesson about Martin Luther King Jr. and the dream he had for his kids. Students then shared their dreams for the future. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Our students have a blast at outside recess when the weather allows, and they come up with all kinds of fun and entertaining games together while outside! Here, they created their own Conga Line! #CPSZEBRAPRID

Mrs. Faught's 2nd grade class at Catalayah completed a mini-unit on Friendship. They read books about friendships and how to be a good friend! They tied it into their language arts lesson on adjectives by brainstorming words to describe "friend"! The students also used adjectives to "sprinkle" in the classroom's cupcake art and writing activity! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Ethan Grimett selected as All-State Defensive Lineman. “I'm so proud of Ethan. Ethan played linebacker for years, but he was willing to switch to the defensive line his senior year because that is where his team needed him. His unselfish attitude paid off in a big way. I look forward to coaching Ethan one last time this summer in the All-State game.” - Coach Hurt The All-State game East vs West will be Jul 29, 2022. Of course, we all know moms are their kids’ biggest fan, and in this family that is definitely true. “This was his first year in the position and to get picked for All-State speaks volumes of his work ethic. Our family is so proud of you Big E! A huge thanks to the coaches who have poured into him over the years. He’s had an amazing career as a Zebra and gets to suit up one more time as an All-Stater!” - Michelle Eaton UPDATE - Ethan has committed to play for the Falcons at Friends University in Wichita, KS. #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
