Reese had watched a YouTube tutorial about how to make calming bubble bottles. She told her teacher about it, and Mrs. Casey let her do a demonstration to her classmates. What a great example of maximizing a teachable moment! Reese may not realize the public speaking skills she was developing, the confidence she was building, but she will always remember her teacher valued her and encouraged her interests that day.

Remote learning isn’t new: Radio instruction in the 1937 polio epidemic. ...This delay sparked the first large-scale “radio school” experiment through a highly innovative – though largely untested – program. Some 315,000 children in grades 3 through 8 continued their education at home, receiving lessons on the radio. (tonesreview.com)

Distance Learning Day! Barrett set up a study station at home to help him stay focused on his work.
His teacher, Mrs. Karin Howell at Claremont Elementary, assigned students to use their library books to take part in an interactive recorded video book scavenger hunt reinforcing their language arts focus. As the teacher called a skill, students were asked to record the example they found in their own text. Mrs. Howell provided her own example using a song playing in the background.
We miss our students and would love to see them learning at home - post a pic in the comments.

Skip counting is an essential part of early numeracy as it is a fundamental skill used in many different practices. Children use skip counting for basic tasks such as telling time or dealing with money and developing a student's ability on other mathematical skills. Counting forwards and backward by ones, twos, fives, and other multiples are strategies used to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.
Here kindergarten students in Mrs. Stadler's class at Claremont Elementary practice skip counting by two and putting numbers in order!

💡 We are lighting up our students' minds and smiles!
Mrs. Lauri Titsworth's Pre-K class at Westside recently received a light board and materials through a Claremore Public Schools Foundation grant. The children enjoy using it to practice sorting, counting, making patterns, and creating geometric designs. I'm so proud of their ability to share and take turns!

🐧 Have you ever heard of Tacky the Penguin? 🐧
Mrs. Cummings's and Mrs. Woods's classes were in for a treat! They read the book Tacky the Penguin and then did this fun craft with watercolors!
Tacky, the penguin, is not your typical penguin. He wears loud Hawaiian shirts, sings off-key, trips over his own feet, and does "splashy cannonballs."
He clearly doesn't fit in with the other pretty penguins that make beautiful music and march in straight lines. Tacky's the odd bird out among all his friends. This nonconformist teaches his old penguin friends some new tricks and helps save the day by outwitting some hunters! This hilarious series following the adventures of this superlative penguin and is a modern classic.

It’s National School Counselors Week! We have 3 amazing counselors here at CHS. Today we will introduce you, Cindy Vanaman, the Claremore High School Freshmen and Sophomore Counselor since 2014. She enjoys helping kids realize their potential and reach their goals. Forming relationships with students and watching them succeed at something they may not have thought they could do fuels her passion for her job here at CPS.
Before coming to CHS worked as a counselor at a wilderness camp for emotionally disturbed adolescent boys in South Florida for 2 years. Then spent 16 years working for DHS in Child Welfare, followed by 6 years as a Program Director for Volunteers for Youth. She still serves on their Board of Directors.
She married a CHS graduate and raised their 3 children in the CPS system. All three have kept her on the sidelines and in the stands of Zebra sporting events. When she gets free time, she loves to read and make memories with her family. She received her Masters in Social Work from the University of Oklahoma and her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the State University of NY.

Mrs. LaShell Page received an iPad grant and had this to say: "I adore the iPad grant I received and the blessing it has been this year especially! My First Graders at Roosa Elementary use them daily. These iPads have allowed them to escape the captivity of COVID and let their minds explore new places through virtual field trips. Students respond to technology in the classroom with ease and enjoyment. These iPads have provided an enhancement of learning in my classroom this year. Thank you, CPSF, for making this dream come true!"
