It's virtually impossible to avoid the excitement inspired by pumpkins. They have come to symbolize not only the vibrant color of the fall season but the spirit of the season as well.
This is the best time of the year to utilize the endless possibilities of pumpkins in classroom activities. Pumpkin-related curriculum links math, science, language arts, social studies, cooking, and the arts.
Mrs. Cole's Pre-K class explored all the characteristics of the pumpkin last week and followed it up with a field trip to the pumpkin patch this week.

The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand. - Vince Lombardi
All we ask is for our student-athletes to play with heart, to give it their all, to rely on their training, to be good sports, to be able to look back and know they left it all on the court. Inquiry-based learning is vital to preparing our students for their future careers. Mrs. Kellie Dixon's science class at WRJH is completing a lab testing and checking for density.
There is more to it than "Does it float?" Knowing the density of a material helps determine the mass and volume, all of which are vital measurements in all industries.
Right here in NEOK we have several industries that revolve around this scientific principle, GRDA, McClellan-Kerr Navigation System, and Hydrohoist, to name a few. These businesses employ hundreds of our citizens and maybe one of these students in a few years.

Nothing is more exciting to a grade school student than the Book Fair. It's a tradition at Claremore FFA to help bring even more joy to a first-grade class each year when the book fair comes to town. Today Claremore FFA purchased each student a $5 book, read it with them, and then spent some time hanging out with a particular student at Roosa Elementary. It's incredible the joy this small act of kindness brings my students as well as the first-grade students.

Mrs. Cox's Geography class at WRJH made a human timeline today while studying the Russian Revolution.
Using a human timeline explores the 'thinking for yourself' approach to timelines. Students actively involved in engaging their creativity through props, pictures, costumes, which makes this strong visual activity memorable. 'Memorability' is vital - if students don't remember an activity, they can't re-use what they've covered.
The most productive timeline work involves children being physically and mentally engaged. It allows students to use a variety of learning styles to learn dates, places, and events in history.

Are you wondering what we did with those pumpkins WRJH students carried in all last week?
The 6th-grade science classes had a pumpkin lab showing the carrying capacity, limiting factor, and biotic potential of pumpkins.
And got a little messy in the process! This is what we call "hands-on" learning!

Mrs. Ritter's 5th-grade science class at, Catalayah, makes some waves this week. What a fun way to learn the beginning principles of how sound waves have a wavelength. Using jump ropes, students could create a high pitch and low pitch sound wave, allowing them to see, hear, and feel this concept come to life.
Waves are used for many reasons in our society: sonar, reading glasses, light bulbs, stereo equipment, and lasers all rely on either sound or light waves. For engineers to develop new (and already used) technology, they must understand how light and sound waves work and how to use them in new devices.
