Up for the challenge 💪 Mrs. Collins' second grade class read Hollywood Chicken this week. 🐓 They practiced vocabulary by finding synonyms and using them in a sentence. She even gave each student a special rainbow pen as a gift! 🌈 Students used these to illustrate what each vocabulary word meant. What a great way to make challenging tasks fun! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!! ♻️ Students were given a project to make a fun pet toy out of materials they had at home. Their goal was to learn about how we can reduce our impact on Earth's systems by reusing materials to make things instead of buying new items. They presented their toys to the class and received feedback about how their product could be improved. They got so creative and really enjoyed this project 💖 #CPSZEBRAPRIDE

important information
In honor of “I Love Public Schools Day,” we want to recognize someone who has been a major supporter of Claremore Public School over the years, Mr. Don McGuire! When asked why Don is passionate about public school, he said “Because of two public school teacher's, I'm the first person in my family to graduate from both high school and college, as they encouraged me to go to college after the military... I'm 72 and just trying to be an encouragement to those teachers who have gone through so much and let them know that I’m grateful for what they do. It's teachers like them that made a difference in my life, and I want to encourage them and say thank you, I care." Don was raised in Tulsa, but left to join the Army during Vietnam. When he came home from the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Sharon. He worked at a factory and would go to college at night, and eventually earned his degree in Criminal Justice. After he retired, he and his wife moved to Pryor to take care of his dad. He ended up being a substitute teacher at Pryor Middle School and High School for 9 years. After his dad was moved to the VA center in Claremore, Don and Sharon bought a house near Westside Elementary to be close to him. They fell in love with Claremore and started taking donuts to Westside and Claremont, just to brighten the teachers’ days. Thank you Don and Sharon for your constant kindness, support, and love for Claremore Public Schools! #CPSZEBRAPRIDE
